The National Economic Prosecutor’s Office (FNE) confirmed a Review of all companies controlled by the State of China and that have a presence in Chile.
The information was issued by the national economic prosecutor, Ricardo Riesco, who commented – during an intervention in the Economic Commission of the Lower House – that an analysis will be made of the participation of all the companies of the Asian giant.
The Commission expressed its concern about the potential acquisition of CGE by the Chinese state company State Grid.
For this reason, the FNE stressed that it will study -in the framework of this particular case- a eventual impact on the national electricity sector.
A few days ago it was confirmed that the largest electricity group in the world, the Chinese state-owned State Grid, closed the purchase of the company CGE at a figure close to US $ 3,000 million, which would mean the largest operation carried out during 2020 in Chile.
Of course, the operation cannot yet be closed because the FNE could file objections.
CGE is currently the largest electricity operator in Chile; and its purchase by State Grid is in addition to that of Chilquinta in October 2019, which carries out the same activity.
Previously, in 2017, the Chinese company Southern Power acquired the stake of the Canadian Brookfield Infrastructure in the parent company of Transelec, for US $ 1,300 million.
The transaction allowed the eastern company to acquire a 27.8% stake in ETC Transmission Holdings.
