The outgoing president of the United States, Donald Trump, on Friday maintained his strategy of reversing the results of the election of November 3, in which the Democratic candidate Joe Biden won, despite the fact that the vote counts are confirming his defeat .

As Trump met with Republican lawmakers from the key state of Michigan, in what the White House defended as a “routine” meeting and not related to the elections, the numbers of the count in Georgia certified a victory by more than 12,000 votes of the Democratic leader , who is projected as the president-elect.

“NUMBERS DON’T LIE”

The Secretary of State of Georgia, Republican Brad Raffensperger, in charge of certifying the results in that state, finally confirmed this Friday the victory of Biden, who thus obtained the 16 votes in the Electoral College corresponding to that jurisdiction.

The announcement came shortly after Raffensperger’s office had to retract a confirmation that became known to local media after an official from that agency mistakenly released a statement certifying the results, when the process had not yet been completed. .

Raffensperger himself warned this Friday, when the deadline for his office to certify the results ended, that he would ratify Biden’s victory.

“I live by the motto that numbers don’t lie,” the official said at a news conference at the Georgia State Capitol.

“I think the numbers that we presented today are correct,” Raffensperger said.

Biden eventually outpointed Trump by 12,670 votes, according to the audit conducted, which is a blow to Trump’s intentions.

Local legislation provides that the results will be sent to the Governor of Georgia, Republican Brian Kemp, who will have until Saturday afternoon to approve them.

As the difference is less than 0.5%, the electoral law in Georgia allows the Trump campaign to request until next Tuesday a new recount, this time mechanical.

LEGISLATORS TO THE WHITE HOUSE

And while the outgoing president refuses to admit defeat, the media reported that Trump invited Republican lawmakers from Michigan to the White House.

According to CNN, Trump is scheduled to meet with the Speaker of the Michigan House of Representatives, Republican Jason Wentworth, and with the leader of the Conservative Majority in the State Senate, Mike Shirkey, among others.

According to the network, there are currently talks about the possibility that Trump will also invite state legislators from the key state of Pennsylvania in the future.

Asked about it, the White House spokeswoman, Kayleigh McEnany, assured that “this is not a defense meeting (of the president’s cause), there will be no one from the campaign there, he routinely meets with legislators from all over the world. the country”.

At his first press conference since Oct. 1, McEnany said “there are a lot of lawsuits brought across the country by various individuals, the (Trump) campaign and others.”

The Axios publication noted that the president’s legal team would not attend the appointment due to an exposure to covid-19.

Just this Friday, Andrew Giuliani, who is the son of Rudy Giuliani – the president’s personal lawyer – and a member of the White House staff, confirmed on Twitter that he tested positive for covid-19, and that he was experiencing “mild symptoms.”

According to the newspaper The New York Times, Michigan, where Biden won and which he plans to certify the results on Monday, has become a primary objective of the Trump campaign to turn the election result.

BIDEN, ADD TOKS TO HIS TEAM AND FOCUSES ON THE PANDEMIC

For her part, Biden’s adviser, Jen Psaki, declared in a virtual meeting with journalists that the Trump administration continues to deny the transition team access to important national security channels and critical information, such as distribution plans for the vaccines against covid-19.

Biden scheduled a meeting with Democratic leaders in Congress; the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, and the head of the minority of the party in the Senate, Chuck Schumer, to push for a new economic stimulus package that can take effect before his inauguration, next January.

“He is going to tell them that there has to be a stimulus program in the period of the ‘lame duck’ because it is very necessary that people have help in time for the festivities” at the end of the year, Psaki said, referring to the period of Government of a president between elections and the handover of power to a successor.

Biden’s transition team also announced that four other veterans of the Barack Obama Administration (2009-2017) will join the White House team and that will support the work of the future first lady, Jill Biden.
