An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.6 degrees was registered at 11:11 p.m. this Friday in the Coquimbo Region
The National Seismological Center set the magnitude at 6.4 degrees in its first report and located the epicenter 54 kilometers west of Los Vilos. He later corrected the figure and indicated in his consolidated report that the earthquake was located 11 kilometers south of Punitaqui.
The National Emergency Office of the Ministry of the Interior reported that it was a movement of “medium intensity” that was also perceived in the Atacama and Valparaíso regions.
Preliminarily, no damage to people, alteration to basic services or infrastructure is reported as a result of the phenomenon, Onemi reported.
For its part, the National Tsunami Alarm System (Snam) of the Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service of the Navy issued a bulletin reporting that “the characteristics of the earthquake do not meet the necessary conditions to generate a tsunami off the coast of Chile.”
