Mario Rozas will leave his post as general director of the Carabineros on Thursday, after numerous accusations of human rights violations.

According to sources from Radio Bío Bío, the boss of the uniformed police arrived this morning at La Moneda to finalize his departure from office.

For now, the officialization of the determination is expected.

Two names appear as possible successors. The first corresponds to Ricardo Yáñez, Rozas’ right arm and current deputy director of the institution.

While the second is that of Mauricio Rodríguez, who served as Chief of the Guard of the Government Palace and as aide-de-camp to the former Interior Ministers, Rodrigo Peñailillo and Jorge Burgos.

Rozas’ departure comes after this Wednesday, two children from a home dependent on Sename in Talcahuano were shot by two soldiers under circumstances that are the subject of investigation and have not yet been officially clarified by the uniformed institution itself.
