The Homosexual Integration and Liberation Movement (Movilh) asked the mayors of the Metropolitan Region, Felipe Guevara, and of Valparaíso, Jorge Martínez, “to adopt the administrative and legal measures that are necessary” to prevent the so-called “Freedom Bus ”Circulate next week.

Movilh made a similar request to the Rear Admiral of the Navy and Chief of National Defense in Valparaíso, Yerko Marcic, and to the General of the Army Division, Carlos Ricotti, arguing that the “experience of 2017 showed that this bus of hatred incites and provokes crowds and violence on public roads, which is especially delicate within the framework of the covid-19 health measures ”.

In the letter addressed to the authorities, signed by the Movilh spokesman, Óscar Rementería, it was stated that “starting next week, both in Santiago and Valparaíso, a bus will circulate with hate messages against sexual diversity and gender, a situation that already happened in 2017, which generated confrontations and violence on public roads ”.

The “Bus de la Libertad”, which Movilh has called “Bus del Odio”, “is financed by the NGO Observatorio Legislativo Cristiano and devised by the Spanish organization“ Hazte Oír ”.

El Movilh said that “this campaign not only misinforms public opinion, but also violates the dignity of people. Since 2012, there has been Law 20,609 that sanctions discrimination and since 2019 the Gender Identity Law (No. 21,120) was enacted, which establishes as a right, recognized and protected by the State of Chile, people with a diverse gender identity ”.

Rementería added that “in 2017 the ‘Freedom Bus’ generated a wave of violence that forced the authorities of the time (who authorized its transit through Chile) to recognize that they had made a mistake in allowing it to circulate. Meanwhile, in Spain, justice revoked the NGO Hazte Oír its status as a ‘public utility’ organization, precisely because of the negative impact caused by the controversial bus ”.

Given this, they requested “the prohibition of the circulation of the aforementioned bus with hateful messages and apply all administrative and legal measures against those who try to spread them because they are contrary to our current legal regulations and the fundamental Human Rights of all people.”

In parallel, the Movih announced that it will take to the streets “The Bus of Diversity”, to “inform in an unprejudiced way the LGBTI reality in Chile and to confront the misinformation of the Bus of Hate”.
