The immunologist Anthony Fauci, an adviser to the White House during the covid-19 pandemic, described this Monday as “incredibly impressive” the first results of the US laboratory vaccine Modern against disease.

The vaccine is based on recent technology that involves inserting genetic instructions into the body for cells to make a coronavirus antigen and trigger an immune system response.

The immunologist recalled, however, that “There is still a long way to go” to vaccinate the population and was concerned about the number of people who oppose vaccines in the United States, the country most affected by the pandemic.
“Anti-vaccine sentiment is important in this country,” he said. “You have to be able to overcome it and convince the population to get vaccinated, because a highly effective vaccine is useless if no one gets vaccinated“.
