The concern was born in the Frente Amplio, but today it spreads throughout the opposition. Before the presidential irruption of the humanist deputy, Pamela jiles and its good citizen evaluation in the polls, in the center-left the concern regarding the distance that the parliamentarian marks with the other figures of the sector has been installed transversely.
Fear has been permeating the communities in recent weeks, amid the prominence that the legislator reached during the discussion of the second withdrawal of pension funds that was approved in the Chamber of Deputies last week. And that “performance” materialized in the latest polls, which found Jiles the best-rated political figure in the industry.
In the latest version of the Cadem survey – released this morning – the ex-ample front reached 65% approval, fifteen points more than in its first measurement in August and surpassing popular leaders such as the president of Colmed Izkia Siches and the mayor of Las Condes, Joaquín Lavín. Also, on Sunday, in the Citizen Pulse survey, Jiles displaced the mayor of Recoleta, Daniel Jadue from second place in the presidential preferences, with 9.6% of the preferences.
In addition, in that same poll, a piece of information was included that did not go unnoticed in some of the teams for the presidential candidacies in the sector: Jiles obtained first place in almost all the “management attributes”. In other words, regarding those who are most identified with “improving pensions”, “improving the health system”, “improving the economy”, or “leading the changes that Chile needs”, the parliamentarian reached the highest averages.
In that sense, in the center-left they point out that it would be a “phenomenon” that could electorally affect the opposition as a whole, but with greater depth to the sectors “more to the left”, as well as Jadue and the former presidential candidate of the Frente Amplio, Beatriz Sánchez. The journalist, in fact, is usually the target of Jiles’s darts and, they say in the Broad Front, those criticisms have caused concern about the possibility that the two will face off on the presidential ballot.
“We are bad,” wrote on his Twitter account today the Liberal Party deputy, Vlado Mirosevic, before the news of the irruption of Jiles.
Along with these criticisms, the center-left look with concern at the personalist and media style of Jiles, who is criticized for “getting on the Approval bandwagon” after harshly questioning the November 15 agreement that allowed the plebiscite. Likewise, in the sector it is pointed out as an “erratic” policy, although “very clever” in capturing public attention.
In addition, in some sectors of the center-left they see that it would be difficult for the opposition to get behind Jiles, if he advances in the different stages of the presidential race.
For its part, the issue bothers the rest of the presidential candidates in the sector, who are reluctant to refer to Jiles’ numbers and the fact that they, for the most part, do not appear in the polls. Who did address the matter was the former PPD minister, Francisco Vidal, who in today’s Cadem reached 3% of the presidential preferences, surpassing for the first time – by 1% – his helmsman, Heraldo Muñoz.
“Pamela Jiles generates leadership in public opinion, in my opinion, essentially a product that was fully in tune with the withdrawal of the second 10% and given that this is a very felt demand by millions of Chileans, whoever heads that demand obviously has majority support. That is my interpretation of his first place ”, maintains the also presidential candidate of the PPD, Francisco Vidal. And he adds: “You have to look at it more calmly. On the left there are three leaders, Daniel Jadue, Beatriz Sánchez and Pamela Jiles, and what is happening is that Jiles is displacing Sánchez, nothing more ”.
Meanwhile, Muñoz limited himself to commenting that “my interest is in a structural reform of the pension system, which is something urgent, not in commenting on surveys.”
In turn, one of the candidates of the Christian Democrats, Alberto Undurraga stated that “Pamela Jiles has a different project than ours, I don’t see her in the center-left primaries.”
What is Pamela Jiles up to and why is she doing it: Her role in the second 10% withdrawal and the modus operandi that bothers the FA
“There is no doubt that the numbers have to do with the second 10% proposal, but you cannot pretend to govern a country in that way. What is responsible, and that is why we are in the Constituent Unit, is that we have to be able to build an alternative for change, for transformations, but also seriously, with consistency and certainty for Chileans, ”says the president of the DC, Fuad chahin, who, furthermore, assures that he is not concerned “that due to a circumstantial situation Pamela Jiles appears with a percentage of this nature, let us remember that at the time Alejandro Guillier marked much more and look at how we ended, then we have to learn from the mistakes of the past ”.
For their part, other candidates in the sector, such as Jadue, declined to refer to the issue.
In turn, when asked about it, Deputy Jiles said that “I don’t give a damn what the polls say, the only thing that interests my grandmother is to alleviate the pain of my suffering people, that my grandchildren know that someone listens to them and protects them at whatever cost. I believe that I have greater ability than any other politician to build bridges, in the face of the citizenry. This is what my grandchildren ask me, to talk with whoever is necessary and convince them (…) We are generating a majority that listens to the street and that goes from Desbordes to Florcita Motuda ”.
