A 24-year-old cyclist died this morning after being run over by a Red bus, former Transantiago, in the commune of Providencia.
After the impact on Holland Street, between Providencia and Nueva Providencia avenues, the woman was assisted by personnel from the Metropolitan Hospital that is located in the sector, but despite this she died on the spot.
The area of the accident is closed by police personnel who are diverting the traffic of vehicles.
According to the records, three cyclists have died in road accidents in the last 15 days. Between January and September, however, 85 people who were transported by bicycle died as reported yesterday by the Minister of Transport, Gloria Hutt.
On October 30, the journalist died Christian Martínez Santos (30), whose bicycle was hit by a Transantiago bus, in Av. Carmen with Av. Santa Isabel.
On the morning of recent Tuesday, meanwhile, another person on a bicycle, identified as James Fuentes, was killed by the driver of a vehicle at the intersection of Pajaritos avenue with Las Torres, in the Maipú commune. After the fact, a group of about 300 cyclists gathered at the scene of the accident to demand justice.
