In the midst of days in which it is discussing carrying out profound reforms to the Carabineros, the uniformed police have carried out a significant reinforcement of their tactical vehicle fleet.

According to what La Tercera reports, the Carabineros went from having 36 water launchers in October 2019 to 49 for this year.

Similarly, the so-called “4x4tacticos” increased from 85 to 99 in the last 12 months.

In terms of modernization, last year vehicles with 18 years of service were used. To date, that number has been reduced to 13 years.

The same information points out that “of the 36 police cars that were in October 2019, only 26 were operational. Today, of the 49 total, 34 are enabled.”

Army donation

To the above, it must be added that the Army donated 10 Mowak armored vehicles to the Carabineros. Meanwhile, the Navy did the same by giving up two 4 × 4s.

Along with this, the institution led by Mario Rozas signed an agreement with Famae (Factories and Teachers of the Chilean Army) to carry out vehicle repairs.
