The justice found guilty for the crime of attempted murder to a man who attacked a neighbor in Puerto Montt with an ax – in the Los Lagos region – causing amputations and serious lifelong consequences.
In the early morning of May 25, 2019, the life of the victim completely changed in the Chaicas sector, corresponding to the first kilometers of the Carretera Austral.
The woman the night before invited a neighbor, José Zúñiga, to her house, who brought food and drinks to share with her and her children. The children went to sleep and the man wanted to kiss her but she refused, throwing him out of his home.
Hours later, a knock on the door woke up the victim, who opened it after seeing his neighbor with an ax in his hand. The same element that he used to brutally beat her, leaving her at life risk.
The Puerto Montt prosecutor, Nathalie Yonsson, said that they expect the judges to consider all the damage caused to the woman and thus the person responsible receives the maximum penalty.
According to the victim, before the attack she was able to fend for herself, but now she has difficulties to continue her life normally.
The woman had to testify during the trial, she remembered how it was to wake up her son, bloodied, so that he could notify the Carabineros. The same little boy who at age 11 was key to saving his mother’s life.
In a few days, the sentence against José Zúñiga, alias “Joselo” will be known, who is in the Puerto Montt jail waiting to know what his sentence will be.
