Some of the main television stations in the United States, such as ABC, CBS and NBC, cut in unison President Donald Trump’s speech in prime time, while Fox News, the informational reference of the Republican Party, denied his words the night of this Thursday (05.11.2020).
The rift on the conservative news channel is deepening as Trump repeats his allegations of voter fraud.
“We have not seen anything that constitutes fraud or an abuse of the system,” said the White House correspondent for Fox News, John Roberts, live from the same press room in which the president spoke seconds before.
On the news set in New York, the presenters repeated over and over again. “We have not seen any evidence.”
Fox News turns around and questions Trump
Hours later, on late-night opinion shows, Fox News anchor Laura Ingraham took a 180-degree turn and questioned in an editorial that the vote by mail should be counted, stating that “America should meet the winner on the night of the elections or the next morning. “
The same station, the most watched paid news channel, assumed great tension on Tuesday’s election night after declaring Trump’s rival, Democrat Joe Biden, the winner of Arizona before other media have done so.
The difference in criteria in the Fox News programming reflects the informational tension that exists between the journalists of a company that has to decide between continuing to support the drift of Trump’s speech or the verification of his accusations against the electoral system.
Three big chains in open cut speech
Meanwhile, the three major free-to-air stations -NBC, ABC and CBS- cut and forcefully denied Trump’s speech in full direct.
“We have to interrupt Trump because the president has made a series of false claims,” said journalist Lester Holt, host of NBC Nightly News, one of the three most followed news programs on free-to-air television.
The same was done by David Muir, the host of the most followed news program in the country with 8 million daily viewers, ABC World News Tonight. “There has just been no evidence in any of these states that there are illegal votes,” it said.
Next, the journalist explained that due to the coronavirus pandemic, voting by mail had increased, breaking records, more than 100 million Americans voted early, and that prolonged the scrutiny.
“Sad night for America”
CBS, third in hearing, began a fact check as Trump finished his speech, and denied all his accusations of “fraud” and “system corruption.”
More forceful were the information services of the US public radio, NPR, stating that “Trump once again falsely claimed victory in the 2020 elections. He has not won. The votes are still being counted.”
For their part, the paid news channels CNN and MSNBC, known for their more liberal positions, spoke harshly: “What a sad night for the United States.”
Virtually no major media outlet has corroborated the allegations of electoral fraud made by the Trump campaign. Usa Today, The Washington Post, The New York Times and the Los Angeles Times also denied the president.
