Conaf and Firefighters emergency teams controlled the fire that broke out in the Rapa Nui National Park, which led to the activation of a red alert, consumed eleven hectares and affected five Pukao, a name known to the hats of the moais.
During the afternoon, Conaf reported that a brigade and a technician from Conaf worked, as well as the Easter Island Firefighters, a brigade from the Armed Forces and a cistern truck from the municipality.
The municipality indicated that the incident affects the Puna Pau sector, a place where the ancestors of the islanders made the moai.
The fire would have been registered by indiscriminate burning of land, added the municipality, which would be due to an old practice “in the belief that burning the soil would favor plantations.”
