Disappointed. This is how this day was shown the deputy DC, Gabriel Ascencio. The reason? A series of statements from the party chairman Fuad Chahin and tent senator Carolina Goic regarding the constitutional accusation against the former Minister of the Interior, Víctor Pérez.
Ascencio was one of the main promoters of the libel against the now former chief of staff, defending the brief in court in front of Pérez’s lawyer, Gabriel Zaliasnik.
After the approval of the accusation has been finalized, Ascencio was going to be one of the three deputies who would go to the Senate – which acts as a judge in this case – to defend the libel. But this will no longer be so due to the words of Chahin and Goic on the subject.
“It is disappointing to learn from the press of messages that can be understood as a call for forgiveness for Víctor Pérez’s infractions. It would be good if the PDC’s National Council spoke. Today I have asked my head of the Bank to remove me from those who must defend it in the Senate “, said the deputy through his Twitter account expressing his annoyance.
But what did both DC officials say?
Good, Chahin in dialogue with Radio Duna declared that “the first objective of a constitutional accusation is that the authority that has breached the constitution of the laws or has left them without execution, as in this case Minister Pérez, does not continue in office and that is, so to speak, an objective achieved from the point of view that he submitted his resignation. “
“Therefore I believe that the first objective and the central one is fulfilled, the rest is a rather accessory objective. and the Senate will have to consider whether with the resignation of the minister already materialized, votes in favor or not of the constitutional accusation, “he added.
While the Senator Goic, in an interview with ThirdHe pointed out that “the constitutional accusations generate two effects. One has to do with the defendant not continuing in office, then it has to do with asserting political responsibility, and another is inability. What corresponds is to analyze on their merits the proposals of the prosecution with the background that we have on the table today. The minister is no longer in office and that is a factor that we have to weigh ”.
It is not the first time that the DC has been a factor in the voting of the constitutional indictments. For example, in the libel against the former Minister of Health, Jaime Mañalich, the abstention of deputies from the phalanx was key so that it was not approved. While in the Senate, the abstentions of the same Goic and his peer, Jorge Pizarro, as well as other unchecks of the opposition, allowed the accusation against Mayor Felipe Guevara not to prosper in the Upper House.
