Until last Friday University of Chile technician, Hernán Caputto, assured that he was not surprised by his departure from the club despite the fact that he feels that he left a legacy since he took the team when he was last in 2019 and leaves it in the fifth position of the 2020 Championship.

“I do not regret any step that I took, let it be clear. I came to a long-term project, but the opportunities, as it has been in my life, I take them with daring and that prevails now too. Likewise, what we started was continued. More than eight youths signed a contract, seven made their debut in professionalism, and the national teams today have more U players, “Caputto said at the outset. in interview with The Mercury.

“We took the first team in very difficult moments, in the last places and today we delivered the team in a very different position, fifth. I wish I had taken the team being fifth. Three coaches passed last year and I was the only one who took the team out of the penultimate place. My assessment is that with my coaching staff we arrived when the U was at the bottom and we left it fifth. That is very positive and comforting, “he added the former goalkeeper.

Caputto said he was not surprised by his departure, although he regrets “that the project was not finished, because there were 17 dates left.”

“This year I was a participant in the agreements for salary reductions at the club so that it would not bring collateral damage, as it still happens in other teams. That leaves me calm. I feel like we left a legacy not just on the court. We left U in the drinking zone and we were undefeated for 11 dates, “he added.

Regarding the variables that influenced the irregular performance of the team after the pandemic, Caputto explained that “We were playing as we could and not as we wanted, for different things, which is not an excuse, it is a reality. I wanted to play better, but we had very important injuries, like Pablo Aránguiz, which added to the administrative changes at the club. “

“That generated changes in the structure and they were reflected in the people who had a relationship with me. There were agreements before the pandemic and the changes did not materialize,” said Caputto, who does not rule out directing in inferiors, although “I hope to direct again in First “.
