Twitter has already marked six tweets from the President of the United States, Donald Trump, as “misleading” in less than 24 hours.
“Part or all of the content shared in that tweet is controversial and could be misleading regarding the mode of participation in an election or in any other civic process,” the social network wrote about the Republican president’s messages, immediately after his publications .
On Trump’s Twitter page, the message no longer appears immediately, but you have to click on it to read its content.
In the messages, Trump denounces -for example- that the Democrats are “trying to steal” the elections, although without giving proof of it.
He also accused that ballots had been entered “secretly”, as “has been widely reported.”
As indicated, Trump’s messages go against Twitter’s Civic Integrity Policy, issued in October 2020, in order to prevent the use of “Twitter services for the purpose of manipulating or interfering in elections or other civic processes ”.
“This includes posting or sharing content that may discourage participation or mislead people about when, where, or how to participate in a civic process. In addition, we can tag or reduce the visibility of Tweets that contain false or misleading information regarding civic processes and we can offer more context ”, states the regulation of the platform.
According to the norm, the violation of this policy can lead to the elimination of the tweet, suspension of the account or – as happened in the case of Trump – putting warnings through labels.
