After knowing the resignation of the post of Minister of the Interior of Víctor Pérez, the undersecretary of the portfolio, Francisco Galli, assured that “soon ”there will be news on who will be the new head of the ministry.
Pérez’s resignation was announced minutes after the constitutional accusation was approved against him.
Galli, now acting minister, declared that “the president is defining the appointment of the interior minister, so we will have news soon.”
From La Moneda it was indicated that there is no specific date, but they hope that this designation will not take long. Among the names that appear to take the post in the interior are the current government spokesman, Jaime Bellolio (UDI) and the mayor of Estación Central, Rodrigo Delgado (UDI).
Bellolio would sound strong, however, within the party they would prefer to someone with more political experience for the position and close to him indicate that he would be comfortable in his current role within the Government. Meanwhile, Delgado would be a good card considering that can not go to re-election for the commune and he would also be being urged to take the position of the spokesman minister in case of remaining in the free quota that remained within the cabinet.
To these would be added the deputy Juan Antonio Coloma (UDI); the current Minister of Defense, Mario Desbordes (RN), the also deputy Patricio Melero (UDI) and finally, Foreign Minister Andrés Allamand (RN).

After Pérez’s resignation, a farewell ceremony was held in La Moneda, where President Sebastián Piñera dedicated a few words of thanks to him.
The president remarked that “Minister Víctor Pérez always fulfilled his duty (…) he always respected the Constitution and the laws, he never incurred any cause of constitutional accusation.”
In a press conference, the now former minister indicated that he resigned from his post because upon being disqualified, the Government You can’t go long without a headline on such an important portfolio.
