Republican stronghold for four decades, the last Democratic victory being that of Jimmy Carter in 1976 tonight Joe biden extended the dispute in the state of Texas.
However, after remaining at the head of the count for moments, finally the victory in the state went to Donald Trump. With 93% of the votes counted, the Republican won with the 52.2% versus 46.3% of former Obama vice president.
There was talk of an eventual break in this republican tendency –where Trump had also triumphed over Hillary Clinton in 2016 by a difference of almost 10 points, and that the polls on these elections gave a technical tie, mostly with an advantage of Trump within the margin of error-, due -according to experts- to the demographic changes that the state has had: a rise in the Latino population and voters younger with progressive ideas.

Other factors that supposedly reduced the difference between the two candidates were, according to specialists, the high participation that occurred this year in the early vote, which even exceeded the total of votes in 2016, and the rejection of the rhetoric of Trump.
“Texas is a state that is and has been Republican for decades, so that it is something that can be lent to conversation, it already becomes unusual because of the weight it has,” he explained in LT Conversations, Juan Pablo Garnham, Chilean journalist for The Texas Tribune.
