On alert are the insurance companies for the project that seeks to withdraw 10% not only from the AFPs, but also from life annuities. That is why insurers last month had three lobby meetings, where they attended to discuss the issue at the Labor Ministry and at the Commission for the Financial Market (CMF).

The second withdrawal of 10% will be voted in particular this Wednesday in the Constitution Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, and the deputy and president of the instance, Matías Walker, said that they hope to dispatch it this week, unlike the withdrawal in annuities, that could come out in the coming weeks, he said, because it requires more debate because it is more complex.

With the Minister of Labor, María José Zaldívar, they met on October 15 exclusively on the issue of the withdrawal of 10%. There was attended by Alejandro Alzérreca, general manager of the Security insurance company; Mario Gazitúa, president of the Association of Insurers; and Jorge Claude, executive vice president of the union.

With the president of the CMF, Joaquín Cortez, they met on October 21 to discuss three issues: the withdrawal of 10%, the pension reform, and the bill on transparency of market agents. It was a single meeting in which the three executives who attended the meeting with the Labor portfolio participated, but they were joined by Andrés Merino, general manager of Metlife; Henry Comber, president of EuroAmérica; Christian Unger, general manager of Consorcio’s insurance company; and Mario Romanelli, president of Chubb in Chile.

From the CMF, the insurance mayor, Daniel García; Commissioner Bernardita Piedrabuena; and José Antonio Gaspar, head of the legal department of the CMF. On the other hand, on October 20, Claude, Alzérreca, and Gazitúa met with the Minister of Finance, Ignacio Briones. According to the Lobby Law platform, this meeting was for a “formal greeting from the representatives of the Association of Insurers of Chile AG”.
