After a video was disseminated on social networks where two police officers repeatedly beat a man at the time of his arrest in the Hijuelas commune – Valparaíso region -, the institution decided to discharge both police officers for unjustified violence.

The incident occurred when the person who was arrested was violating the curfew, that is when a police officer approached the man and kicked him, then held his head against the wall while grabbing his hair and they hit him once against a concrete wall.

The governor of the Province of Quillota, Ivan Cisternas, pointed out that at the time of the arrest there was unjustified violence by the police officers, for which an investigation was opened after the discharge of both police officers.

“At the time of being arrested there are videos that show unjustified violence by the police in that same detention, therefore an internal administrative process is immediately generated that begins with the dismissal of the officials and after that comes all the necessary investigations. I understand that the Carabineros also reported to the Prosecutor’s Office denouncing the case of abuse, “he said.


The provincial authority also added that the dismissal of the police is due to the fact that the former uniformed men did not comply with the institution’s protocol.
