The Minister of Finance, Ignacio Briones, supported the government’s position this Sunday after three parliamentarians from his Evópoli party, Senator Felipe Kast and Deputies Andrés Molina and Sebastián Álvarez, announced their decision to freeze relations with the government after the murder of the young policeman, Eugenio Naim Caniumil, an event that occurred last Friday in the Padre Las Casas sector.
“I want to second what my colleagues, the minister spokesman, the minister of the Segpres have said, starting by emphasizing that there is no doubt that the situation we have seen in Araucanía is very sad, very painful, there is a family, an institution, the first thing is to empathize with that ”, Briones said in a joint press conference with the government spokesman, Jaime Bellolio, and the Minister Secretary General of the Presidency, Cristián Monckeberg, to comment on the situation, in which his participation was not initially announced.
Asked about his opinion on the possible link of the decision of the parliamentarians with the constitutional accusation that will be voted on Tuesday in the Chamber of Deputies against the Minister of the Interior, Víctor Pérez, he maintained that “I am the Minister of Finance, I am very respectful of the institutional roles of each one, the party through its president, its board, will have to take charge of the answer to the question you ask me, I will be the only thing I can say, I spoke with Senator Kast, and here there is unrestricted support for the Minister of the Interior.
In this sense, he emphasized that “here we must not confuse things, I think the underlying issue is if we are going to allow ourselves after Sunday when the Chileans asked us to look forward, that we agree, not on everything, but on The substantive thing, including the pension reform, are we going to accept once again that this political world is given a little pleasure, and for the sake of a small advantage it does not contribute to that climate of dialogue? I believe that Chileans are expecting something different, I say it with great honesty ”.
He also indicated that “As Evópoli has said, they have given their full, and full, absolute support to Minister Pérez because anyone understands that regardless of the decision that Evópoli has taken in this case, it is not related to the management of the Minister of the Interior”
In this regard, he affirmed that “the Minister of the Interior has been in office for three months and I think that the fundamental thing, as my colleagues said, is that after the plebiscite there is a dichotomy, not a climate of polarization, within the bubble of the political world , which does not converse with peace, calm, optimism, with a vision of the future, which Chileans have expressed at the polls ”.
“The Chileans ask for dialogue and obviously an unjust constitutional accusation against our Minister of the Interior, who enjoys all the support of Evópoli, as has been expressed, does not contribute to this climate of dialogue,” he added.
