The aunt of the 2nd Carabineros corporal Eugenio Nain Caniumil referred to the death of her nephew on the day of the funeral of the police officer murdered a few days ago in La Araucanía.

“We are abandoned. They did not kill him for being a police officer, they killed him for being a Mapuche, is what I can say,” said the police officer’s relative, also assuring that both she and Eugenio Nain are descendants of Mapuche authorities.

“The policeman they killed was not just a policeman, he was a descendant of lonko,” said the woman who arrived at the funeral in Mapuche clothing.

“This cannot be an enmity, we are from the same country, from the same nation. I don’t know what is going on in people’s heads,” he added.

The ceremony took place in the Carabinero Temuco Training Group, where the general director of the institution, Mario Rozas, and a large group of police officers arrived. In addition, a formation of firemen honored him with sirens and beacons.
