Carabineros reported this Friday afternoon of at least a score of detainees for “serious disturbances to public order” when participating in riots and throwing blunt objects against uniformed personnel in the middle of demonstrations in Plaza Baquedano.

An unauthorized demonstration took place at the site demanding the freedom of people in preventive detention or sentenced for the protests of the social outbreak of October 18, 2019.

Personnel from the Carabineros Public Order Control Prefecture dispersed the protesters with gas and water launchers.

Metro de Santiago, meanwhile, reported after 7:00 p.m. the closure of the accesses to the Baquedano station due to the incidents on the outskirts. The combination between lines 1 and 5 remained enabled. After 8:30 p.m., the Universidad Católica en Línea 1 station closed.

The demonstrations started around 5:00 p.m. and caused a series of traffic detours on the Alameda-Providencia axis and other arteries that converge in the area.

Personnel from the 30th Police Station of Radiopatrullas detained a teenager at the intersection of Bellavista with Bombero Núñez carrying a backpack with five incendiary devices.
