It was said in the ruling party that after the Chile Vamos plebiscite and the government would be united -after the differences between the Approval and Rejection-, in contrast to the opposition. However, this week in La Moneda and in the parties they have recalled the most critical days that the coalition had to face, especially when last July the first withdrawal of 10% of AFP funds was approved, which ended with a change of cabinet.
Now, in the bloc, the cross recriminations returned after the House Constitution Committee approved the idea of legislating for a second withdrawal, which had votes from RN and Evópoli. “The government, once again, was late”, said multiple parliamentarians to question the holders of the Treasury, Ignacio Briones, of work, Maria Jose Zaldivar, and Segpres, Cristián Monckeberg.
The parties resented the fact that a concrete proposal had not been presented to counter the initiative led by the deputy Pamela jiles, especially because this motion was known for months.
To this is added that in the pension reform the government has not yet managed to secure an agreement with the center-left and maintains its project, which is in the Senate, without progress in its processing.
And in addition to the recriminations from the parties to the government, Inside La Moneda there have been differences to face the discussion of the 10% retirement and the pension reform. In fact, according to government sources, Briones and Monckeberg they have been confronted in how to approach the subject.
To this was added that during the week the Executive was unable to gather support regarding the projects to eliminate disabilities – which was given extreme urgency – so that authorities do not have to resign early to compete in the next elections.
All this, moreover, has been crossed with the constitutional accusation against the Minister of the Interior, Victor Perez, which will be voted on Tuesday in the Chamber and whose scenario for La Moneda remains uncertain. The issue generated tensions between the UDI and RN because deputies of the party led by Rafael Prohens were upset with the arguments used by the defense of the Interior Minister, an episode that La Moneda claims to have left behind.
In the midst of this scenario, the Minister of the Segpres headed this Friday a meeting with the heads of the bank of Chile Vamos to define the strategy to face the projects that are coming, among them, that of the withdrawal of 10%, to which Chile Vamos will enter an indication to try to correct the initiative and not remain below the debate, as happened in the first opportunity. This idea, in fact, is being coordinated with the Segpres.
Despite that, in Europe They regret that a meeting has only been called this Friday and they express disagreement with Monckeberg’s role. The president of that party, Andres Molina, said to Third what “Without a doubt there have been situations this week that have to do with legislative issues where there have been some shortcomings and unfortunately the messages in this have not been well understood. I feel that Minister Monckeberg himself is quite absent, and that has been noticed ”. And he added: “We need the technical director, who in this case is Mr. Monckeberg, to actually have a capacity for anticipation, and we have not seen that.” In his opinion, this is the work of Monckeberg, and not of Briones, who is active in Evópoli.
Prohens, meanwhile, de-dramatized the scene and assured that the coalition is united. Regarding the accusation against Pérez, he said: “I can assure you that the deputies are aligned.” And he warned that if someone “deviates, the appropriate measures will have to be taken, because here we are a party and a coalition, and if we do not know how to work in a coalition we cannot be in it.”
Anyway, in Palacio they lower the profile of controversies and qualify the week as a “Small earthquake”.
In this context, moreover, Monckeberg and the government spokesman, Jaime Bellolio, they were coordinating a unitary act for next Monday with deputies from Chile Vamos. The objective is for them to attend La Moneda and give a sign of support to Pérez. This, in the midst of the private questions that the UDI has slipped, which suggest that, supposedly, few spokespersons have been made in defense of the chief of staff.
