In the Senate Constitution Commissionrepresentatives of indigenous peoples criticized the proposal of Chile Come on, to create a parallel electoral roll in the Constitutional Convention that will draft the new Magna Carta.
The foregoing, within the framework of the processing of the project that seeks to reserve seats for this segment, initiative that is stalled in the commission, due to the agreements that the opposition and the ruling party have not been able to reach.
The ruling party insists on the need for a registry that is based on a Conadi registry. Instead, the opposition has raised the need for citizens themselves to be the ones who identify themselves when voting.
Marianela Jopia, of the Diaguita National NetworkHe said that a special registry would leave many members of the indigenous peoples out of the convention.
“A special pattern is impossible, because it would leave many of our brothers out of this situation,” said Jopia.
Isabel Godoy, representative of the Colla People, asked that the indigenous community be heard. He said that the Chile Vamos proposal is discriminatory.
“As pre-existing nations we ask you not to think for us … listen to us,” Godoy said.
Still in the commission no agreement is reached. The head of the RN bench, Rodrigo Galilea, defended the proposal of his coalition.
“It would not be sensible at all that (for example) 500,000 Maupicinos could elect eight seats and that, perhaps, 200 thousand indigenous people can choose 15 or 20 or 24 … that has no proportionality, nor any logic, “said the parliamentarian.
It is expected that in the next few days continue the debate of the Constitution Commission and that parliamentarians continue to listen to the representatives of indigenous peoples.
Meanwhile, both sectors must reach an agreement so that the initiative can be approved in the Chamber.
It should be noted that the project requires votes from the opposition and the ruling party, considering the high quorum that is required for the proposal to succeed.
Meanwhile, at the front of the Congress, during the day, groups from Tumberas de Valparaíso held a demonstration to demand the inclusion of reserved seats for the Chilean Afro-descendant Tribal People and Indigenous Peoples in the Convention.
