María Belén Carvajal lived this Wednesday the happiest day of her sports life. The Sanfelipeña physical education teacher became the first Chilean referee to lead a First B game and marked a milestone in professional soccer in our country.
After refereeing the match between Melipilla and Deportes Copiapó, the judge who has a long history in different types of tournaments and even in world cups, received all kinds of awards.
The mayor of that commune, Claudia Pizarro, and the president of the ANFP, Pablo Milad, even joined the platform of the Municipal Stadium of La Pinta.
The communal chief gave Belén a bouquet of flowers in the same stadium, and after that the referee went to the ANFP headquarters in Quilín where further congratulations awaited her.
In Quilín, Pablo Milad led a tribute to the judge, in which the Minister of Women and Gender Equity, Mónica Zalaquett, also participated.
Minister: support María Belén and women in soccer
“I am very happy about this historical fact for our football, and especially for the women of our country. Today a giant step is taken. María Belén is opening a path for women, where the INAF is hungry to receive all women who want to be a referee tomorrow, “said the soccer president.
“This will remain in my history and in the history of Chilean football. This is the demonstration that we can, that the barriers no longer exist, that we can fly and go as far as we want. I thank everyone for this moment, especially my family “expressed Maria Belén Carvajal excited.
For its part, the Minister of Women, Mónica Zalaquett, stressed that “it is important to incorporate, support and encourage women to develop professionally in Chilean soccer.”
