President Sebastian Piñera He sent a letter to the Senate on Tuesday to remove the veto on the bill that established labor protection for public sector workers, approved in mid-August.
“I am pleased to inform Your Excellency that I have resolved to withdraw from processing the observations contained in official letter N ° 171-368, dated September 16, 2020, formulated on the bill that makes it applicable to public and municipal officials
the labor protection procedure contemplated in the Labor Code for the protection of fundamental guarantees “, indicates the document signed by Piñera and the Minister Secretary General of the Presidency, Cristián Monckeberg.
The project was passed into law on August 18 by the Senate, but on September 16, the Government sent a veto to the law, which among other measures replaced the supervision of the Labor Directorate, as contemplated in the project , by Comptroller.
Finally, the bill will be passed into law as approved by both Chambers, where it achieved broad support.
The purpose of the reform is to incorporate into the labor relations of the public sector, the labor protection procedure, allowing these workers the legitimate defense of the acts arising from said relationship and that violate their fundamental rights.
Likewise, it modifies the Labor Code in terms of clarifying the scope of action of the Labor Directorate in matters of labor protection and clarifies the payment of compensation for public sector workers in case of availing themselves of the complaint for this reason.
