A very different atmosphere was experienced tonight inside Renovación Nacional (RN) after the overwhelming triumph of the Approval in the Plebiscite.
As the community gave freedom of action before the historic election, the militants quickly divided between the Approval and the Rejection.
Among those who were in favor of the Approval was the former helmsman RN and today Minister of Defense, Mario Overflows, and the senator Manuel Jose Ossandón, together with his sister the deputy Ximena Ossandón.
On the counter were faces like the deputy Diego Schalper, the former senator and now Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andrés Allamand, and the senator Francisco Chahuán. These last two, critical of the management of Desbordes.
After the overwhelming victory of the Approve, Ossandón emphasized that “Here the left did not win, here Chile won, here we all win. We are very proud that ordinary people, with common sense, who love peace, who do not want more violence, gave us an example of civility, a republican spirit and an example for the world. ”
“Everything expected violence, the truth is that the atmosphere was wonderful. Today we are more united than ever, we are going to work for the future, but we are also going to be the face of the work for a new Constitution, seeking a more humane, more supportive Chile “, said the former presidential candidate, who lashed out at the campaign “of fear, that we are going to be Venezuela.”
“Those of the Approve want peace, those of the Approve are against violence,” he remarked.
Chahuán asked to abandon the gaze of Chile in black and white
The UDI, Evópoli -which despite initially supporting the Approval then went on to freedom of action- and the RN sector due to the rejection met at their own command to follow the count, on Avenida Santa María in Providencia, where they began to assume defeat from the first count.
Senator Chahuán highlighted that, under the same roof, “those of us who legitimately had an option for proactive Rejection met. That we wanted to make the changes to our fundamental charter, but we believed that the constituent process would generate two years of uncertainty and those who, legitimately, considered that the Approval was a formula that allowed to catalyze the urgent changes in which we agree. Today’s result speaks of the future, it speaks of the Chile that we must build. ”
In this sense, he asked to abandon the “gaze of Chile in black and white”, of mistrust, and to build a collective project, a new social pact, a project with a sense of identity and a vision of the future.
In turn, Schalper pointed to the division with which the sector faced the plebiscite: “When the center-right is divided, we all lose”, he assured.
“It is impossible not to recognize itWe want you to know that we are going to continue working hard, that we recognize this as a floor to continue working and more important than that, that we are going to assume the commitment to defend our convictions in this process that has just begun, convictions that have to be defended in the constituent, “Schalper added.
UDI is now betting on the choice of conventional
For its part, deputy María José Hoffmann (UDI) avoided attributing blame, especially to the government’s position, which prioritized disregard: “It would be very unfair to give it responsibility,” he pointed out, since the “political project” they propose “transcends the Government and has to do with the parties. “.
Along with being “proud” of the work of the UDI in the process, she urged to “seek unity” in the sector and he laid his eyes on the election on April 11 of the members of the Constitution Convention, where he already hopes that they can obtain “favorable” results.
That is why, since the Rejection in Chile, we are calling to seek agreements to form unit lists for that vote.
Along the same lines, Senator UDI Juan Antonio Coloma, said that “today a process does not end, today a process begins, we have had a complex, difficult choice, obviously the results cannot make us happy, but I think that in public roads one does not lower his arms at this time but strengthens hearts and somehow our conviction is that we have to be able to have a very good result in the constituent “.
JA Kast: The biggest defeat is that they did not defend convictions
Meanwhile, outside the ruling bloc but also from the Rejection, the former deputy Jose Antonio Kast (Republican Party) did attribute responsibility to La Moneda, in addition to the violent events registered since October 18.
“While our President spoke of Chile being a paradise, he clearly was out of step with the Chileans from day to day. And when one lets terrorism grow with impunity, it makes the situation increasingly critical for our nation.” He said.
Likewise, he lashed out that some voices on the right supported the Approval: “The option that we defended was defeated, but the biggest defeat is that some have not defended their convictions,” he said.
