With applause, the young Gustavo Gatica, one of the symbols of the October social outbreak, was received at table 122 of a polling place in the Colina commune, after he lost his vision after being wounded by pellets fired by a Carabineros officer while taking pictures during a demonstration in Plaza Italia.
Gatica, a 21-year-old psychology student, was injured in both of his eyes on November 8, 2019. Unfortunately, the care in an emergency center could not prevent him from going blind.
Just in August of this year, the North Central Prosecutor’s Office reported the arrest of Lieutenant Colonel Claudio Crespo, who was released a few days before from the Carabineros Special Forces, who was charged as the material author of the shots that left Gustavo Gatica blind, leaving Gustavo Gatica in preventive detention by order of Judge Marcia Figueroa, of the 7th Court of Guarantee of Santiago.
