The Paraguayan prosecutor’s office is investigating the discovery of 7 decomposed corpses in a fertilizer container unloaded in Paraguay and from Serbia.
These are immigrants, including at least three Moroccan citizens and one Egyptian, the prosecutor in charge of the case, Marcelo Saldivar, confirmed to the AP on Saturday.
The prosecution has so far identified only four of the seven bodies at the moment and that they are in an advanced state of decomposition, which makes tasks difficult.
The container left Serbia on July 22 by river means and the main hypothesis is that the immigrants boarded it at that time.
It is presumed that they considered making a stopover in a shorter time that for reasons still unknown did not happen, the prosecution reported.
” The evidence indicates that they would be people who ventured to be transported by means of the container and were dying inside; They could have died from starvation, lack of oxygen or from some disease, ” Saldívar said in a statement.
The dramatic case of the container in Paraguay
“When the container was opened, we noticed an ugly smell and there, as you will already know, we sent for everything that is a police station, police, criminalistics, all that and it was verified that inside the container” the seven bodies were well advanced state of decomposition, Vernon Rempel Baerg, owner of the container, told the AP.
The bodies were found in a fertilizer container for the field and the cargo had a certification that implies “that it should not be touched from the beginning to the final recipient,” the prosecution explained.
The agent of the Public Ministry explained that the bodies are in a state of significant putrefaction, so it is presumed that they are people who died a long time ago. He assured that they are adults.
The prosecutor pointed out that among the belongings found in the container are a phone card and some food, so it is not ruled out that they are people who have tried to enter a country illegally.
