Two lawyers from Valparaíso filed a complaint with the Regional Directorate of the Electoral Service and the Prosecutor’s Office for a series of changes of electoral address and registrations in the commune, which add up to 20,459 suspected cases of some type of eventual electoral fraud.
Of these cases there are three types of possible irregularities: there are currently 18,003 cases registered under the address “El Puerto”, which could be cases or addresses that have not yet been confirmed by the Servel, and which could be in order, but the body has not yet validated its condition.
More worrying is the situation of 22 addresses, which have almost 2,500 registered people. There are, for example, the Armada building in Calle Prat, which has 576 people registered and authorized to vote from that single address. There are also 7 unnumbered UK homes in Playa Ancha, totaling 937 people, supposedly living in this sector.
Jaime Barrientos, militant Republican Party lawyer, he pointed out that together with the lawyer Ernesto Manríquez, they began to investigate more than 10,000 changes of electoral address towards the Valparaíso commune, and although he indicated that at this moment they do not point to any person responsible, they did ask the Servel and the Prosecutor’s Office to pronounce .
The lawyers’ concern is not the Sunday plebiscite, since the address is not relevant for that election, but made the complaint thinking of the municipal elections in April.
The Director of Communications for the Navy, Captain Leonardo Chávez, came out to explain why the building on Calle Prat registers a large number of registrants.
Chávez argued that the above responds to the fact that “a large part of the members of the institution, being assigned to a new division, make their electoral registration change indicating their work address at the time of registration, a situation that is recorded in the corresponding regulations ”.
“This makes the voting process for the members of the institution more expeditious, since the vast majority of the members of the Navy, on voting day must return to their respective offices after voting, ”he added.
Finally, he concluded that “it is for this reason that a large number of Navy personnel are registered at one address and any other interpretation that you want to give it, we completely discard it ”.
Meanwhile, Deputy Jorge Brito explained that the aforementioned addresses belong to the Navy and the Maipo Regiment of Playa Ancha, for which he indicated that “here there is a malicious attempt to misinform and of little rigor.”
“Clearly, this far-right group here seeks to confuse and take away the legitimacy of a process that is going to be successful, despite the lies they are trying to raise,” he criticized.
Likewise, the mayor of Valparaíso, Jorge Sharp, also questioned what was pointed out by the lawyers, calling to stop “dirtying democracy and the name of our city.”
4th act. So, is the extreme right accusing Army and Navy officials of electoral fraud?
5th act. We know that you do not believe in democracy, but the vast majority of porteños and porteñas do. Stop dirtying democracy and the name of our city!

Radio Bío Bío contacted the Regional Directorate of the Servel and the regional Prosecutor’s Office, from where no confirmation of the receipt of the complaint with the possible proceedings was obtained until the closing of this edition.
