The Investigative Police (PDI) registers an increase in cases of death threats against authorities through social networks or internet after the social outbreak of October 18 last year.

So far this year, the Investigative Brigade of Metropolitan Cybercrime of the PDI already accumulates 45 inquiries for this type of crime and, according to the head of this unit, Luis Orellana, the figure represents a significant increase over the same period last year, according to Third.

The detective noted that “the motivation to threaten an authority always arises as a result of a news item or a contingent event, in which there is an opinion delivered by the authority of which the author of the crime is against. The idea is to intimidate him as a form of rejection to what they are saying. “

To this same date last year there were between six and seven investigations in progress, according to the PDI, which increased to 45, of which 30 have had results, 11 are still ongoing and four do not register progress.

Of the investigations that have yielded results, the arrest of six people, while the rest, despite having been identified by the PDI, have been warned by decision of the Prosecutor’s Office.

Among the public figures who have been victims of threats are: deputies Diego Schalper (RN), Matías Walker (DC) and Sebastián Keitel (Evópoli); Senators Juan Pablo Letelier (PS), Ricardo Lagos Weber (PPD), Alejandro Navarro (PRO) and Iván Moreira (UDI); Besides of Mayor of Recoleta, Daniel Jadue, the President of the Medical College, Izkia Siches; he Metropolitan Mayor, Felipe Guevara, and some judges.

Meanwhile, there are nine investigations into threats against the President Sebastián Piñera and his family, either through social networks or through a Presidency website.
