On his way through the webshow Velvet for Breakfast, hosted by Angélica Castro and broadcast from Instagram, Andrea tessa spoke of his more than 10-year fight against bladder cancer.
“2010 came with a feeling of discomfort, but it is the same discomfort as when you have had a cystitis, no difference ”, related the current face of Rec TV.
“I had never had one. It was the most uncomfortable summer, so I started taking what is taken for this thing, and although I had no pain, I still had a strange discomfort, “he added.
In 2010, he felt the symptoms before the fateful earthquake of the February 27, when he was visiting Antofagasta.
“I went to the marriage of my boyfriend’s son, who was getting married on February 26, 2010 in Antofagasta, and I had an appointment for March 3 in Santiago. And the earthquake of 27 is coming… A friend of mine told me ‘don’t come to Santiago because she is with psychosis at the moment, people are very scared, aftershocks come every so often’. In Antofagasta it was not felt, and I stayed ”, he said.
“I told Iván (his partner) ‘I need to go here, since I can’t go to Santiago’, and we found out who was the best urologist in Antofagasta. Doctor Reinaldo Morales ”, he added.
Antofagasta, Tessa learned during her stay, is a city where bladder cancer is much more recurrent due to the presence of arsenic in drinking water for decades. “There are many people who are 60, 70 years old today, who have bladder cancer, kidney cancer, skin cancer”, he assured.
“I went to the doctor the next day… Indeed, yes. I did not stay (with) much time to think and to be afraid and panic. I said, ‘what is there to do?’ “You have to undergo surgery, I imagine you want to go to Santiago.” ‘No, I’m staying, I have surgery in Antofa. Can I have surgery tomorrow? ‘ ‘You can operate tomorrow,’ ”the doctor replied.
And just like that: on March 2, the singer underwent surgery. “They already took out waiting for the biopsy, which is also a few days too long, because although we knew what it was, you have to see the last name, because there are cancers and cancers, ”he said.
His sarcoma, “which is very aggressive but thank God it is not infiltrating”, was removed. “They gave me a treatment and for four years I was perfect, no problem. But on the fifth, when he was about to raise the flag, he reappeared. And these types of tumors, or nodules, are recurring, so it is not a surprise. They are not very aggressive but they are recurrent ”, he confessed.
Since then, the artist has undergone regular six-month check-ups. In that routine, he has already been 10 years and more than one operation in tow. “(You have to) always be vigilant. Never say, ‘I won the battle against cancer’… You don’t have to say that. It is losing respect for him and that bug must be respected, because it appears. First you have to listen to your body, you have to check yourself ”, he recommended.
As a result of the pandemic, its biannual checks have been interrupted. “In September I did the checkup and ok, I’m calm. It is a subject that I will always have to live with and I will always have to check, ”he said.
It was in this process when he received an offer from Channel 13 to take on as a jury in My name is, project that ended up rejecting.
“Then Nicole did it and she did it luxuriously… But I was coming off my super intense treatment, so I needed some time for myself. It was very rough, I had had a very bad time, “he said.
“I don’t regret it, because the body asks you ‘stop, give me the ball.’ That is what I did. And another thing: I started drinking alkaline water. I don’t drink tap water anymore. I bought a wonderful machine with which I alkalize the water and cook, because the body has to be in a more alkaline than acidic state ”, he assured.
