Punta Arenas and Puerto Montt lead the list: These are the 20 communes with the most active cases of COVID-19 in the country
This Wednesday the Ministry of Health published Epidemiological Report No. 61, which details the progress of the coronavirus pandemic in the country. Among the data that is delivered The document indicates that until October 18 there were 17,276 people in Chile with the virus active, that is, they are capable of infecting others.
Active cases refer to confirmed or probable living people infected with COVID-19 whose date of onset of symptoms, notification or sampling is less than or equal to 14 days from the date of the current report.
Distributed throughout the country, currently the region with the highest number of patients capable of infecting others are the Metropolitan and Biobío
When analyzing the same data by commune, we can see that Punta Arenas continues first among the 20 towns with the most active cases, after several weeks in the same place.
Although Punta Arenas decreased the number of active cases by 12% and Arica by 4.2%, in all the rest of the communes on the list the number of patients increased at this stage.
The report also indicates that until last Sunday there were 558,935 cases of COVID-19 in the country, since the beginning of the outbreak in March: 493,305 with laboratory confirmation and 65,630 probable. The cumulative incidence rate is 2,872 people infected per 100,000 inhabitants.
“The highest cumulative incidence rates per 100,000 inhabitants, according to laboratory-confirmed cases, are found in the Magallanes Region (6795.7), Metropolitan Region (4046.4) and Arica and Parinacota Region (3768.6)”.
Regarding the cases distributed in the different age groups, the 6.27% corresponded to persons under 15 years of age, 24.25% to persons aged 15-29 years, 29.72% to persons aged 30-44 years, 28.80% to persons aged 45-64 years, while the remaining 10.95% to adults 65 and over. Meanwhile, the median age is 38 years.
