New clashes with police and property damage were recorded yesterday in different parts of the conurbation.

The mobilizations began in the sector of the Plaza Romario Veloz, in the vicinity of Mall Plaza, where a commemorative act was held for a year of the death of the young foreigner who was shot by a military patrol while they held protests in the sector.

The activity, which featured various artistic shows, was carried out peacefully and without major inconveniences.

Veloz’s relatives were present and demanded prompt justice for the young man’s death.

This tranquility changed after the event ended, when a group of participants mobilized to the roundabout sector of Avenida Francisco de Aguirre with Route 5, where they began to erect barricades, cutting off traffic and destroying signage.

Some of the off-hooks went to the Copec Point located in the place to start looting it, a situation that was noticed by Carabineros personnel, who intervened by dispersing the protesters with water launchers.

The incidents continued for a few minutes, and then moved to the sector of Balmaceda and Cienfuegos streets, where damage to some traffic lights and furniture was recorded.

Mayor Pablo Herman emphasized yesterday that the demonstrations in recent days “the actions of the protesters have been quite violent. They go directly to the confrontation with the Carabineros and our officials have acted under their new protocols, respecting human rights and following all their procedures without regretting great events.
