While tens of thousands of people peacefully gathered in the Plaza Baquedano sector to commemorate the first anniversary of the social outbreak, the other side of the coin was experienced in the vicinity of the epicenter of the protests.
The most serious events were the fires in the institutional Church of the Chilean Police in the Parque San Borja sector, and the Church of the Assumption located in Vicuña Mackenna with Pierre de Coubertin.
After 4:00 p.m., a group of hooded men entered the Carabineros church, which had already suffered an arson attack in January this year, and then set up barricades with objects stolen from the place. After 4:30 p.m., the institution reported 5 detainees related to these events.

Later, around 7:30 p.m., a mob attacked the Church of the Assumption, taking out religious figures and setting fire to the premises. The flames consumed the building, causing the collapse of the bell tower and almost completely destroying the construction dating from 1876. The site had already been vandalized in a protest last November.
In the neighboring area of Plaza Italia, a group also started a fire in the Mutual de Seguridad building in Alameda. In addition, looting was reported in the mini-market of the service center located in Diagonal Paraguay with San Camilo, in the Santa Isabel de Portugal supermarket with Diagonal Paraguay, and in the Hites multi-store in Alameda with San Antonio.
High Bridge
In the south of the capital, another focus of protest was concentrated in Protectora de la Infancia in Puente Alto. The call at this traditional demonstration point in the southern sector commune of the capital forced traffic to be diverted on Concha y Toro avenue and Metro closed the service at this station corresponding to Line 4.
Subsequently, a group of individuals generated violent disorders outside the 20th Puente Alto Police Station, throwing blunt objects at the police unit. The same police compound has been the target of multiple attacks since the case of Anthony, the minor who was thrown from the Pío Nono bridge by a member of the Carabineros.
Other sources of conflict
In Melipilla, the Carabineros reported that a police officer was injured after being hit by pellets. Despite not suffering life-threatening injuries, he was transferred to a medical facility for care. In addition, the supermarket in the commune was attacked by unknown persons.
In Padre Hurtado, meanwhile, a group attacked the police station with forceful elements.
Other sources of conflict occurred in Quilicura, which forced the closure of the Intermodal Vespucio Norte station; in Plaza de Maipú; in the La Granja Station sector of Line 4-A, among others.
In regions, a group of protesters looted offices of the Regional Ministry of Education in La Serena, and set up barricades with the material. Further north in Antofagasta was also the scene of incidents
