This Saturday afternoon, the Segpres issued a statement with an update on the hack that the Digital Government Directorate (DGD) suffered just a week ago – dependent on the aforementioned ministry in charge of Cristián Monckeberg – and that forced to initiate a process of updating the Unique Key.
In the document it was detailed that “in the process of analysis of the DGD systems that is being carried out, it has been confirmed that information hosted on servers managed by the Division was exposed to third parties.”
“In fact, on Thursday 15 the attackers released a file with information related to digital procedures of some organs of the State administration, a file whose content is still being analyzed to determine precisely the nature of the information and the seriousness of the its scope, all of which will be made known to the public in a timely manner, in conjunction with the measures adopted to give peace of mind to the public, “he added.
In that sense, they pointed out that this new antecedent had already been reported to the North Central Prosecutor’s Office and the PDI Cybercrime Brigade in charge of the investigation into this case.
On the other hand, they reiterated that “to date, no evidence has been found that the information of the Unique Key has been violated. In any case, we insist that there is no database of RUT and passwords, so that someone could badly steal it. The Unique Key technology prevents the system from knowing the key of each person, since only a non-reversible encrypted code is stored ”.
Regarding the process of updating the passwords of the Unique Code, announced by Minister Monckeberg last Wednesday, it was indicated that to date more than 500 thousand people have completed the process.
“The Digital Government Division continues to analyze its systems to achieve the greatest certainty regarding the above and the vulnerabilities that allowed it. For this it has the support of the Ministry of the Interior and Public Security and has added the help of international experts ”, they added.
For the same reason, it was hardly known that “the intrusion into the servers was known, strict security measures were adopted for access to them, in addition to the installation of a security tool that protects the servers and applications against vulnerabilities, malware and unauthorized changes, a tool that incorporates machine learning and virtual patches. This is in addition to other measures that have been taken based on the progress of the investigation ”.
