In this sense, the CMN indicated that, according to the Law 17.288, the maintenance of public monuments is the responsibility of the municipalities where they are located, while the mayors and governors ensure the good state of conservation of public monuments located in the provinces and departments of their jurisdiction, and must report to the Council of any deterioration or alteration that occurs in them.
In this regard, “the Council provides guidelines for the maintenance of Public Monuments, aimed at both municipalities and municipalities and governorates, in order to provide guidelines on how to act against damage considered minor, such as graffiti and paint,” he added.
“The request of the Army, made public yesterday, regarding the transfer of the monument to General Baquedano to dependencies of the institution, must be formally analyzed by the Council of National Monuments“said the agency.
