Implement a vehicle restriction and increase the capacity of the public transport system. Those are part of the proposals made by an academic from the University of Concepción when thinking about the lack of refinement.

The demand for public transport fell by 77% in September, this according to the “Study of Mobility in Times of Pandemic” carried out in 10 communes of Greater Concepción.

A situation that will not be reversed quicklycommented Juan Carrasco, academic from the University of Concepción, after participating in the virtual meeting where details of this analysis were given to various actors in society.

The expert, in relation to the measures to recover public transport, pointed out that several measures should be implemented at the same time and increase -for example- the capacity of the system to transport passengers, thus avoiding crowds.

In turn, he affirmed that more buses cannot be bought, but that taxibuses can be made to move faster, thus transferring more passengers. In this sense, he added, the exclusive spaces for collective locomotion should increase, noting that the vehicle restriction is also an alternative.

Encourage the use of cycling and walkingThey are also part of the proposals made by the professional in the virtual meeting where academics, leaders, public transport entrepreneurs; among others, they learned details of the study that reported -for example- a increased use of private vehicles.

The seremi of Transportes del Bío Bío, Jaime Aravena, pointed out that this type of data is available and will serve to take measures in different areas.

Measurements of pandemic mobility will continue until November, while at the end of this month a new analysis will be known.
