Deputies once again reject an increase of $ 6,000 to the minimum wage and send the project to the Mixed Commission | National

The room of the Chamber of Deputies and Deputies again rejected the government project with which they are seeking readjust the minimum monthly income by $ 6,000 of workers in Chile.

By 71 votes in favor, 59 against and 18 abstentions, the amendment made by the Senate to the text dispatched in the first process was sent to the Mixed Commission.

Specifically, the amendment introduced by the Senate was to restore the article that specified the amount of the readjustment and the date on which it began to take effect, a matter that was not approved on the previous occasion either.

Said text states that, as of September 1, 2020, the minimum wage would be raised to 326 thousand 500 pesos for workers over 18 years of age and up to 65 years of age.

The rest of the project was not subject to modifications, by which it is understood by approved.

In such a situation, readjustments for workers under 18 and over 65 are framed, as well as the minimum income for non-remunerative purposes.

In the first case, the readjustment will involve raising the minimum wage to 243 thousand 561 pesos; while, in the second, it will be at 210 thousand 458 pesos. The readjustment will be verified retroactively as of September 1.

The project also defines that, no later than April 2021, the President of the Republic must send to the National Congress a bill proposing a new readjustment to the amount of the minimum wage, as well as the family and maternal allowance, and the family allowance, in order for it to take effect as of May 1, 2021.
