The Government reacted to the report published by Amnesty International (AI) where it became aware of the violations of Human rights (DD.HH) committed in Chile since the social outbreak.

According to the international organization, the Chilean High Command of Carabineros should be investigated criminally for humiliations committed by officials of the institution during the last year.

In this regard, Ministry of Justice and Human Rights issued a public statement assuring that the document will be taken into account, as has happened with other reports from different organizations.

“It will be analyzed how it was done with respect to the other reports that our country received last year by autonomous human rights bodies (NHRI and Children’s Ombudsman), and three international organizations (OHCHR, IACHR and HRW) ”, indicated the Secretary of State.

They also stressed that the Government “has always condemned any conduct that violates human rights, in any place, time or circumstance, and sympathizes with the victims who have suffered its consequences ”.

For this reason, they reiterate that any situation that violates these principles “must be investigated by the Prosecutor’s Office and known, judged and sanctioned by the Courts of Justice, and their victims repaired under the law ”.

La Moneda took the opportunity to point out that some matters addressed in the report need to be updated, since several are already under investigation.

“In relation to some content included in AI’s report, The Government regrets that it makes assertions on facts and information that require updating and they are currently being investigated by the Public Ministry and at the judicial headquarters ”, they affirmed.

“Regarding the recommendations that the AI Report makes to the State, these refer similarly, although more limited, to those already carried out by other human rights organizations, “the statement added.

This is how the Executive stressed that in our country Carabineros has not used force with the purpose or intention of punishing the protesters “As the Report supposes based on antecedents of limited scope”.

“The alleged intention is far from the work and planning of our police, beyond specific actions that must be clarified by the competent institutions“, They indicated.

At this point, they ensure that the aforementioned report does not delve into the more than 2,800 serious events that occurred since 18-0, nor with respect to the more than 5 thousand officials of order and security that have been injured during the protests.

Along with this, the Ministry of Justice assured that the Government has promoted a comprehensive reform of the Carabineros, as well as an improvement to the regulatory framework for the right to peaceful assembly.
