On September 9, 1976, the body of Marta Ugarte Román was found floating on La Ballena beach, near Los Molles in the Valparaíso Region. Although the press of the time wanted to qualify the homicide as a “crime of passion”, subsequent investigations confirmed that it was a murder of the dictatorship, which also managed to unveil the cruel disappearance mechanism that the DINA was executing at that time: throwing its victims into the sea. This iconic case, which corresponds to the only body thrown into the sea that was found, is the inspiration for Surf, a particular staging that mixes theater, cinema and poetry, which will have a single premiere function next October the 17th at 20 h via Facebook Live since Quilicura Cultural Corporation. Original by Rodrigo Morales, directed by Constanza Thümler and Angelo Olivier, it features performances by Tamara Acosta, Trinidad González, Paula Zúñiga, Alexandra von Hummel and Francisca Márquez.

“Quilicura is a commune with memory. For our management it is very important that the new generations know who Marta Ugarte was and how the DINA ended her life in such a cowardly way. That is why a few months ago we inaugurated our new Cesfam with his name and now we set out to support this great theatrical production, starring incredible women, so that it can reach the largest number of homes and also, why not, become in educational material for schools and high schools ”, declares the mayor of Quilicura, Juan Carrasco.

For your directors, Surf it is a scenic experiment that seeks to incorporate, contrast and link the virtues of theater, the poetic thickness of the playwright, with the possibilities of the cinematographic format, where these are confused between an image of thought and a thought in action. “A silent encounter between five notable women who try to approach a person from their voices, bodies and affections. fight memory”, They add.

“Marta is our present, is part of our questions and, from it, we take a position and speak. We talked a lot about the form the staging should take. We did not want to show the dissidents as victims but, rather, to find the psychedelic way in which those lives are thrown into the open and densify words and actions ”, concludes its author.
