The deputy for Magellan, Gabriel Boric, proposed to deliver $ 500 thousand to the families of Magallanes in order to stop the increase in cases of coronavirus in the zone.
The southernmost region of the country is experiencing a dramatic situation in the face of sustained second wave of infections of covid-19.
According to the representative of the Broad Front through Twitter, “the number of new cases in Magallanes is as if only Santiago had more than 8,500 new cases per day. Imagine the national alarm we would have! ”.
For this reason, he pointed out that to stop the cases, the quarantine must be effective, for which he proposed “an exceptional support package for Magallanes with direct transfers of $ 500 thousand per family so that people can effectively stay at home ”. To this could be added soft loans to SMEs, he said.
“If the population is not supported economically, the need will keep them dating. You can’t blame people for it, ”he added.
Boric also criticized the health authorities because, although a second quarantine was decreed in Punta Arenas, mobility did not decrease.
Regarding COVID in Magallanes, you cannot expect to obtain different results by doing basically the same thing. We have proposed alternatives to face the crisis. Government must react! pic.twitter.com/ckESGr0MPZ

“Lots of productive features they managed to keep running without the necessary control and supervision. There was also a proliferation of collective permits and, in general, the health authorities were permissive in the face of pressure from multiple companies, “he added.
Next, he argued that “these measures, which are put in and out without explaining why, account for how erratic local authorities have been regarding the pandemic. It is a mix between that they do not know and cannot apply really incidental measures to seriously reduce mobility ”.
“We have been victims of a dangerous synthesis between disability and centralism. It is what we have to change ”, he asserted.
