Thousands of cyclists arrived this Sunday at Plaza Italia in the center of Santiago to demonstrate in favor of the constitutional change that will be decided in Chile on October 25 through a plebiscite.

After noon, the caravan occupied the entire roundabout of what the protesters renamed “Plaza de la Dignidad”, amid the massive protests that began in October last year.

Armed with flags with the slogan “Approve” and a striking coffin that symbolized the death of the Political Constitution of the dictator Augusto Pinochet, the participants sang songs of protest against the Government as they circulated around the square.

The flow of cyclists went to this emblematic site of the Chilean capital from different points of the city, including the communes of Ñuñoa, San Miguel and Santiago.

Accompanied by a group of vehicles, the caravan demonstrated peacefully and the convocation had a family character: among the people present were young people, children and the elderly.

Carabineros, who had occupied the space with cars and units on foot, decided to withdraw to surrounding areas.

These types of demonstrations are not new. Since the social outbreak of last year, lovers of two wheels promoted what was called the “Cycling Revolution”, a space that denounces repression and also demands rights on the public highway to avoid accidents.
