“Who knows me knows that I’m not going to do that”. With those words the Minister of the Interior referred this morning, Victor Perez, Regarding the possibility of requesting the resignation of the direct general of the Carabineros, Mario Rozas, to “save” the constitutional accusation presented by the opposition against him.
That idea had been expressed by some people on the center-left, such as Congressman DC, Matías Walker. The parliamentarian – minutes before the sector made official that he would present the libel – assured that “it would not make sense to continue the accusation if General Rozas assumes his responsibility.”
In that sense, this morning the Interior Minister addressed the issue. “Taking out General Rozas to save me from an accusation is blackmail”, said the former senator at the Central Table. And, regarding the libel against him, he indicated: “this is an opportunity because I am going to face it knowing that I have not committed any fault.”
Likewise, the Secretary of State also referred to the investigation against a police officer, whom the prosecution accuses of the crime of frustrated homicide for having driven a 16-year-old protester to the Mapocho River.
More about Victor Perez
“It is a regrettable fact (…) we must seek personal responsibilities, but the Carabineros will continue to seek public order,” he said. However, when asked about the investigation carried out by the prosecutor Ximena chong, the headline went further and stated that “in my personal opinion, I doubt it ends in attempted murder.”
Likewise, the minister referred to the threats suffered by the persecutor, after the episode in which a Carabineros lieutenant was discovered hanging around the prosecutor’s house. “No one has the right to threaten anyone,” he said.
However, the Secretary of State once again insisted on a point that had already cost him criticism from the opposition. In that sense, the former senator accused Chong of an alleged lack of objectivity. “I believe that (Chong’s lack of objectivity) and the political opinions that she says are evident,” he said.
That same opinion had already been expressed in previous days. In fact, yesterday Pérez said that “I have personally told him that he lacks objectivity many times.”
