An 18-year-old girl died and at least 8 other young people suffered burns of varying severity in a brewery in San Miguel, a municipality northwest of Buenos Aires, when an alcohol drum exploded that a waitress used to recharge a burner with fire that served as a centerpiece.
The accident occurred at dawn on Saturday, October 10 in Tsar Burguers, a gastronomic place located on Paunero and Rodríguez Peña streets. According to police sources, the victims, aged between 16 and 19, were at a table in the internal courtyard when the explosion occurred.
Witnesses reported that the waitress approached with a jerrycan of alcohol with the intention of recharging the stove. Antonella, a young woman who was at the brewery, said that “Suddenly the drum exploded and all the people -including the waitress- caught fire”.
“I was there and I saw the whole situation. I was at the table in front, there were 6 guys sitting with the burner at the end of the table, they called the waitress to turn it on and she came with the bottle of alcohol (I had a feeling that something bad was going to happen and it happened) ” he wrote on his Facebook account.
“I stayed with my partner glued to the wall while the boys set on fire ran to the exit, which was a door through which only one person passed. One of the girls fell to the ground but stopped moving. All the boys had burned faces and chests, the smell of burned hair. I’m not going to get any more scare ”, he described.
The eight injured, including the brewery employee, were treated on the spot and rushed to Larcade Hospital. Shortly after, and due to the severity of the burns they had suffered, two of them were referred to the Burning Institute of the City of Buenos Aires.
According to the sources, Lucia Costa Osores, 18, passed away this afternoon. Regarding the injured, it was reported that the waitress and one of the clients received a medical discharge. The others remain hospitalized. At least four suffered burns to their faces.
