The mayor of Valparaíso, Jorge Sharp, requested the resignation of the director of Education of Cormuval, Silvana Sáez after the Comptroller’s Office will initiate a trial of accounts to recover more than $ 930 million pesos for the alleged misuse of the Preferential School Grant.

However, Sáez issued a statement stating that he will not resign from the post, and accused the mayor of Valparaíso of making a hasty political decision.

This would be directly related to irregularities in two high schools in the port commune: María Luisa Bombal and high school Técnico de Valparaíso.

The community leader, Jorge Sharp assured that if there are possible crimes, all the background information on the case will be released to help the investigation. But that was not all, since he requested the resignation of the Director of the Education Area of the municipal Corporation, Silvana Sáez.

However, during the afternoon of yesterday it was known that the director of education Silvana Sáez, issued a statement indicating that she is not going to resign from the position, and accused the mayor of Valparaíso of making a hasty political decision by asking for his position, adding that it has no responsibility in what the Comptroller’s Office questions and committing that it will take legal action to defend its labor rights.

Along with this, an audio from Sáez was released that he sent to the Cormuval workers, in which he referred to the mayor’s decision.

“The mayor’s position is publicly known (…) he tries to put, again, responsibilities that I do not have,” he said, adding that he would also denounce “the working conditions that I have, I do not have a contract, I do not have an appointment as director of the Education area.” .

As for the Comptroller’s report, this also allows students from both educational centers to be used “to work as garzones and cooks, being minors and without express authorization to carry out this activity”, a situation that even reached the children’s ombudsman , who indicated that they are already conducting investigations on this issue.

The inspection body, at the same time, sent the information to the Public Ministry, considering that the events could be considered a crime, in particular an alleged misappropriation of public funds.
