Carabineros announced on Tuesday its decision to initiate the administrative process for the expulsion of the official Sebastián Zamora for a “serious administrative offense” committed by the uniformed officer in the episode that occurred on October 2 on the Pío Nono bridge, when a teenager from The 16-year-old ended up being rescued by protesters from the waters of the Mapocho River after falling seven meters during an “onslaught” by the Carabineros Public Order Control Prefecture, due to incidents at the site.

Zamora was formalized by the attempted murder of the teenager, with the initials AJAA, who had to be hospitalized at the Santa María Clinic. The 7th Guarantee Court of Santiago decreed preventive detention for the official and set 120 days for the investigation.

According to the Carabineros, Zamora revealed, through his defense, to the North Central Prosecutor’s Office that on the day of the events “he was carrying a personal camera outside the institution and not authorized.”

“The omission of this fact constitutes a serious administrative fault, since there are instructions that regulate the use of personal cameras in police procedures. Failure to comply with this principle is unacceptable and is grounds for expulsion from the institution, which is why the corresponding administrative process was initiated, ”said the uniformed police.

Once the institutional declaration was known, the Ministry of the Interior and Public Security issued a statement in which it states that “the Government instructed the Carabineros to hand over to the Public Ministry all the information regarding the unfortunate events that occurred last Friday, October 2 in the Pío Nono bridge ”.

“Once these new antecedents are known, the Government reiterated to the Carabineros its obligation to collaborate in the investigation and make available to the Public Ministry all the information available on the matter, as well as the application of the corresponding measures,” added the purse.

The ministry headed by Víctor Pérez ended his statement stating that “for the Government it is essential that all police action be carried out with transparency in front of the citizens and in strict adherence to protocols and the law.”
