This noon the president of the UDI, Jacqueline van Rysselberghe, next to Senator Juan Antonio Coloma, they met with him Minister of the Interior, Víctor Pérez (UDI), for lunch at La Moneda.

Meeting that is given in support of the Secretary of State, after sectors of the opposition reactivated the constitutional accusation against him as a result of the case of the young man who last Friday fell into the Mapocho River, from the Pío Nono bridge, after being impacted by a Carabineros official.

In this sense, and after meeting with Pérez, Van Rysselberghe spoke to the media and criticized the libel against the chief of staff, in addition to questioning the role that the Prosecutor’s Office has had in the case.

“Without a doubt, trying to remove ministers through constitutional accusations, we already have one in Congress, is not the best way. Here clearly the government and all of us believe that we must have a strong Carabineros institution that helps us to be able to take care of democracy and that happens by trying to clarify situations where there may be an excessive use of force. And for the same reason, we hope that the investigation is awaited, there is clearly a situation here that is regrettable, but what must be determined here is whether it was on purpose, an accident, what the circumstances were and that is under investigation. And therefore, to begin to announce constitutional accusations, it seems more with a political intention than anything else “, said the union helmsman.

Senator UDI added that “here you have to be responsible for your actions, and therefore, clearly you have to investigate what the responsibility is. No one is free from an accident. Therefore, you have to clarify the conditions in which this young man fell on the Pío Nono Bridge. But I think that having a country where authorities are put in or removed by pressure from a political sector is the worst way to move forward in unity to move the country forward.

Asked about the departure of the General Director of the Carabineros, Mario Rozas as a way to prevent the accusation against Pérez from advancing, Van Rysselberghe assured that this “It is a decision that the government has to make. But it seems to me that what cannot happen is that the left threatens constitutional accusations to achieve political ends.”

Faced with a question from the press about how they have seen the work of the Public Ministry in this case, the UDI helmsman assured that “It seems to me that the role of the Prosecutor’s Office has been quite contradictory. Statements that are contradictory have come out. And while it is super regrettable that this young man fell, I sincerely believe that regardless of the circumstances that may have surrounded him, I do not believe that the carabinero constitutes a risk to society ”.

“I honestly believe that it could be an accident with more or less guilt, but I don’t think that policeman got up in the morning saying ‘I want to harm society'”, the UDI president closed.
