“Voluntary, safe and gradual”: Minister Figueroa presents a step-by-step plan to return to face-to-face classes
He Minister of Education, Raúl Figueroa, was present at the delivery of the daily balance made by the Ministry of Health regarding the coronavirus pandemic that affects the country, to present a “safe back to school” plan.
The secretary of state stressed that “from the Ministry of Education we have supported the entire educational system with pedagogical and financial resources and we will continue to do so for as long as necessary so that distance education can mitigate the effects of COVID to the maximum. But we also know that face-to-face classes are irreplaceable and that it is essential, insofar as sanitary conditions allow, to make efforts to recover that school experience “.
Therefore, he indicated that in “Together with the Ministry of Health we have designed a step-by-step plan to reopen our schools. This plan has three pillars: Safety, voluntary and gradualism.”
Insurance: “It means that no school opens if sanitary conditions do not allow it“.
Voluntary: “It implies that the establishments themselves make the decision to reopen their doors. And if this happens, their attendance is also voluntary. No father or mother will be obliged to have their child attend the establishment during this period“.
Gradual: “It does not mean that schools that they reopen their doors do it for all the students at the same time. It is done little by little. We have recommended starting with the upper third and fourth grade levels. “
In addition, schools that decide to return to face-to-face classes must comply with seven steps that include: Sanitary conditions, Mineduc protocols, delivery of sanitary kit, organizational measures, educational community, induction and formalize the plan to Seremias.
Finally, Figueroa made a call to “take this challenge forward is everyone’s job and I invite you to commit to our children and youth.”
