Hooded armed men who were traveling in a previously stolen van intercepted a similar vehicle on Saturday that was transporting workers from the Agrícola La Selva forestry company, back to their homes, on a rural road in Collipulli.

The subjects fired at the driver and forced the occupants to descend. With the workers outside the vehicle, they burned it and later fled.

By telephone communication, the victims were able to report the incident, being assisted by police and firefighters who arrived at the scene.

A vast police operation was carried out in the area to locate those responsible.

The injured driver, identified as Pedro Gabriel Cabrera Benavides, 49, had to be treated urgently at the community health center and later referred to the Hospital de Angol. Despite attempts by the medical team to keep him alive, he died in the afternoon.

The versions of the witnesses state that the driver refused to obey the order to get out of the vehicle and one of the hooded men shot him in the face, causing his later death.

Roberto Heise Sociedad de Fomento Agrícola (Sofo) of Temuco, stated that “lWhat happened today in Collipulli is another proof of the evident misrule in the rural areas of La Araucanía. Today an armed group, a group of the worst cowards, murdered a worker. Today we have to mourn the death of Pedro Cabrera. We wish the family, colleagues and friends much strength. “

“The drama of this is tremendous, the fear present in the rural area of La Araucanía will make it depopulated, that no one wants to live in the countryside, this is typical of terrorists, drug trafficking, who want to depopulate Malleco to operate freely, they want a territory to commit crimes ”, he said.

For his part, the mayor of La Araucanía, Víctor Manoli, who went to the Angol Hospital as soon as he was aware of the seriousness of the victim’s condition, stated that “today, again, La Araucanía is dressed in mourning.”

We have to mourn the death of a working person, who on returning to his home within the property where he was working suffered a vile attack, a terrorist attack with a heavy-caliber weapon, “he added.

“We cannot continue to allow that, we have to strongly condemn it; we will do all possible follow-ups to prosecute and convict these terrorists,” the regional chief added.

The authority added that “That family that today has lost a father, leaves two children aged 14 and 5, therefore all citizens must condemn these acts and if they have a record, please send them to those who correspond, to continue the investigation and to be able to come to fruition with this persecution that we must do ”.

Mayor Manoli emphasized that “we cannot allow these people to continue doing acts of this magnitude, of vandalism, just because they do not want people to invest, to give work. Therefore, I call on the public to condemn these acts. We as a government strongly condemn it, but we also need your help to be able to stop all these criminals.

The prosecutor of the High Complexity unit of La Araucanía Héctor Leiva coordinated with the prosecutor Luis Espinosa to work both at the site of the event and at the Angol Hospital to gather the background information regarding the event.

They also requested proceedings from the Homicide Brigade, the Special Police Investigations Brigade (Bipe) and the Criminalistics Laboratory of the Investigative Police.

The spokeswoman for the La Araucanía Prosecutor’s Office, Daniela San Martín, reported that in the site of the event was found ammunition of war.

Meanwhile, the victim’s family is receiving psychological support from the Victims and Witnesses Unit of the Public Ministry.
